The STREEET Safety Task Force met from January through December of 2025 to investigate, advocate, and advance changes necessary to address public demand for safer streets across Fayette County’s transportation network. It focused on short-term solutions in three key areas: Engineering, Education, and Enforcement, and completed an Action Plan to help ensure implementation of its findings.

Recommendation (3.3A) states: "collaborate with Law, LexPark, and relevant departments to develop a draft ordinance prohibiting parking in bike lanes." Council Member Dave Sevigny placed STREEET Task Force: Bike Lane Ordinance into the Social Services & Public Safety Committee (SSPS) on December 4, 2025.

An ordinance has since been drafted to update Lexington's local "no parking" rules to explicitly prohibit stopping, standing, or parking in bike lanes. Council Members will discuss this draft during the Social Services & Public Safety Committee meeting in June and are seeking public input beforehand. Please review the draft ordinance and share your feedback through the survey below.

The survey will be open from April 13 through May 15, 2026.
