Lexington's Digital Accessibility Workgroup envisions, "a thriving Lexington where every resident, regardless of age, background, or location, has access to affordable broadband, reliable devices, and the skills to navigate the digital world. By leveraging technology and collaborative partnerships, we aim to unlock new economic opportunities, improve health outcomes and enhance educational experiences."
Workgroup Goals:
Organize outreach efforts to identify current providers and available services
Determine service gaps and match potential contributors to gap opportunities
Gather community feedback to determine efficacy of services and/or messaging
Create and publish online inventory of Digital Accessibility resources in Fayette County
Cultivate collaboration among partners to broaden reach and improve access to available funding
Develop a Digital Accessibility Plan for Lexington
Review the draft Digital Accessibility Plan & share your thoughts!
What this plan aims to achieve: Lexington’s draft Digital Accessibility Plan focuses on three connected goals that work together to close the city’s digital divide:
Reliable internet community-wide
The plan aims to ensure residents across Fayette County can connect to dependable, high-speed internet and understand what options are available to them.
Affordable devices and service plans
Even when service is available, cost remains a major barrier. The plan prioritizes making lower-cost service plans easier to find, expanding financial assistance options, and creating pathways for residents to access affordable or donated devices.
Digitally empowered residents
Access alone isn’t enough. The plan emphasizes helping residents build the skills and confidence to use technology safely and effectively—through training, one-on-one support, and clearer information about existing digital resources.
Help set our priorities!
There are many strategies that could help Lexington reach these goals—but not all can happen at once. That’s where your input matters.
Below, you’ll be asked to rank the strategies you believe should be prioritized to help meet these goals. You can also share additional ideas, experiences, or concerns in the open forum.
Your feedback will help guide where the city and its partners focus their efforts moving forward.
